Information on AcompliaŽ (Rimonabant) (Possibly ZimultiŽ) CB1 Cannabinoid Receptor Antagonist Sanofi-Synthelabo, a French Pharmaceutical Company created a medication called Rimonabant (They own the trademark AcompliaŽ). This is a new medical treatment in the fight against obesity and possibly other health ailments. This weigthloss pill was officially approved in Britain on June 28th 2006. It then went on to be approved by several other countries in Europe and around the world. Some believe this could one day makes its way to the United Stated, but there are no 'for sures' on this one. As with all medications, this one may have some side effects for certain users, for more information on these see the product information tab above. The FDA also has strick policies for new medications they approve. They must meet certain health guidelines. They also recently disapproved it stating concerns of some of the potential depressive side effects reported. Acomplia (Rimonabant) diet pills are offering hope for individuals needing help with their obesity. Perhaps in a way that other medications could not provide or did so in a way where the side effects where not wanted. This medication as with any comes with stated side effects that one may or may not have while taking the product. Acomplia actually works in a different method than other weightloss pills, and has other potential benefits as well that other weight loss medications do not. Studies also show that it increases levels of HDL (good cholesterol) while at the same time reducing the triglycerides (bad cholesterol). It holds some promise for type 2 diabetes as well as taking away the craving for cigarettes. Rimonabant is considered to be an appetite suppressant. It works by blocking a cellular receptor in the endocannabinoid system of the brain, believed to influence the regulation of body weight, glucose and lipid metabolism. In doing so it is believed that this regulation then reduces the craving to eat more. Clinical Studies have shown that 33% of people taking Rimonabant lost 10% of body weight and kept their weight down for two years which is extremely newsworthy as no other diet drug has accomplished this for so long a period. It also holds huge potential for the obese individual who have other health problems. Please Note the FDA has Not approved Rimonabant (AcompliaŽ) for use in the USA. Be sure to read the disclaimer and follow all local laws regarding this medication. Oct 23rd 2008 Update We have learned that Rimonabant (AcompliaŽ) has been suspended from the EU Market Due to the medications psychiatric side effects. A potential medication in the future is tesofensine, read more about it there. There is another product that has been submitted ot the FDA for weight loss. This has not yet been approved or disapproved. It is awaiting the FDA's panel to determine if it is suitable for the public. It has however in testing shown good results for weight loss. This product is called Qnexa which is a mixture of two other drugs and is creating a lot of discussion in the weight loss drug industry. However Qnexa was voted agaist being approved by the FDA's advisory panel. This means there it is unlikely that it is passed in the near future. There still is a tiny glimmer of hope that it is with special warnings etc, but so far it looks unlikely. Although Contrave is also up to bat soon for approval, many are starting to hold their breath and turning to the news out on lorcaserin as it will have an FDA advisory panel meeting in Mid-September 2010. For a alternative See here for Phentremin-d Although this does not pertain to diet medications, there is a promising new treatment directed towards women who have what doctors are calling Hypoactive Sexual Desire Disorder. This is a condition where woman have an abnormally low desire for sexual related activities. The drug treatment doing well in clinical testing is called flibanserin and has shown positive results in helping out this problem that some woman face. |
